Bali Invests in Improved Road Infrastructure as Badung Takes Steps to Ease Traffic
September 14, 2026
BADUNG, BALI - Bali is continuing to strengthen its transport infrastructure as the Badung Regency Government accelerates efforts to improve road connectivity and address traffic congestion in some of the island's busiest tourism areas.
For international visitors planning a holiday in Bali, these developments are encouraging. Improved road connections are expected to support smoother journeys between airports, hotels, beaches, cultural attractions and other key tourism destinations, while providing greater flexibility for travellers exploring the island.
Badung is home to many of Bali's most popular destinations, including Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Uluwatu and Pecatu. The rapid growth of tourism and development in these areas, however, has also resulted in increasing traffic volumes, particularly during peak periods and major events.
New Road Infrastructure to Improve Access to Southern Bali
One of the major infrastructure projects being prepared is the South Ring Road (Jalan Lingkar Selatan), which is planned to connect the Ayana area with Uluwatu across a route of more than 10 kilometres.
The project is expected to provide an alternative traffic route through the increasingly busy southern peninsula, while improving access to popular coastal destinations around Jimbaran, Pecatu and Uluwatu.
The Badung Government is also preparing connecting routes from the Uluwatu area towards Melasti Beach and the South Ring Road.
For travellers staying in southern Bali, these developments are expected to create additional travel options and, in the longer term, improve access to some of the island's most scenic coastal attractions.
Strengthening Connectivity in Canggu and Tibubeneng
Traffic management is also receiving greater attention in Canggu and Tibubeneng, one of Bali's fastest-growing tourism corridors.
A road improvement project covering approximately 4.7 kilometres between Canggu and Tibubeneng is among the initiatives being developed to strengthen connectivity in the area.
Canggu has become particularly popular with international visitors for its beaches, cafés, restaurants, wellness facilities and vibrant lifestyle. Its growing popularity has also brought heavier traffic and longer travelling times, especially during busy periods.
Improved infrastructure is therefore expected to benefit both local communities and visitors as tourism and commercial activity continue to expand.
What Does This Mean for International Visitors?
The infrastructure programme forms part of a broader effort to ensure that Bali's continued tourism growth is supported by more efficient and reliable connectivity.
For visitors, one of the key benefits will be greater convenience and improved journey planning.
Travelling around Bali can often take considerably longer than the distance indicated on a map. Even relatively short journeys may require additional time because of traffic congestion, particularly around Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Jimbaran and Uluwatu.
International travellers are therefore advised to allow sufficient time when planning airport transfers, sightseeing excursions, restaurant bookings, tours and other scheduled activities.
Using a professional local transport service can also provide greater convenience, particularly for families, honeymooners, senior travellers and groups wishing to visit several destinations during their stay.
Investing in Bali's Future as a World-Class Destination
The Badung Government considers infrastructure development an important part of supporting the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of Bali's tourism industry.
New hotels and tourism developments are planned, while investment in transport infrastructure is intended to support economic growth, create employment opportunities and improve conditions for both businesses and local communities.
For international visitors, the message is positive: Bali continues to invest in the infrastructure required to support the island's future as a leading international tourism destination.
Although traffic remains an important consideration when planning a Bali holiday, the development of new roads and improved connectivity should gradually provide greater route options and more efficient access between the island's principal tourism areas.
Travelling Around Bali? Plan Your Journey Carefully
Until major infrastructure improvements are fully completed, visitors are encouraged to plan their daily activities with Bali's traffic conditions in mind.
A practical approach is to group destinations that are geographically close to one another, avoid peak travel periods where possible and allow additional time between scheduled activities. This can make a significant difference to the overall comfort and enjoyment of a holiday in Bali.
