Badung Regent Calls for Transformation of the Tourism Sector Towards Quality and Sustainable Tourism
September 18, 2026
Strengthening Infrastructure, Connectivity and Transport as Key Components of Badung's Tourism Development
BADUNG, BALI—The Badung Regency Government continues to implement strategic measures to transform the tourism sector towards a more quality-driven and sustainable tourism model.
This commitment was highlighted by Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa during a Sharing Session entitled "Realising Quality and Sustainable Tourism in Badung", held at Bali Budaya Giri Nata Mandala, the Badung Government Centre, on Wednesday, 16 September.
The forum brought together tourism stakeholders, academics and industry representatives to establish a shared understanding and develop strategic measures to support the advancement of quality tourism in Badung.
The event also included the signing of a Co-operation Agreement between Perumda Pasar dan Pangan Mangu Giri Sedana and PT Coconut Homes and BNDCC & BNDH (PT Nusa Dua Indonesia) concerning the provision of essential food supplies.
Strengthening Tourism Governance and Infrastructure
During the session, Regent Adi Arnawa stated that the outcomes of the discussions would be followed up promptly.
He also noted that the Chairman of the Bali Tourism Board (BTB), Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana, would hold a meeting with the Head of the Badung Tourism Office to discuss and follow up on various measures that could be implemented in the short term.
One of the government's priorities is to maintain order, comfort and security across tourism areas. The Badung Regency Government will also optimise the role of Bali's traditional security personnel at various tourist attractions.
Regent Adi Arnawa stated that a number of measures had already been implemented to create a safe, comfortable and orderly environment for visitors.
Improving Tourism Areas and Transport Connectivity
The improvement of tourism areas is also an important component of Badung's tourism transformation.
In relation to the development of the Kuta area, the Badung Regency Government is preparing designated parking areas to help reduce congestion, while also planning the relocation of certain tourism activities in line with the development of public transport infrastructure.
The Regent emphasised that tourism development should not focus solely on pedestrian infrastructure, but must also address traffic bottlenecks, accessibility and parking capacity.
As part of the planned development of public transport in Kuta, designated parking areas are also being prepared to support a more organised and efficient mobility system for visitors.
Developing Northern Badung and New Tourism Destinations
Beyond Southern Badung, the government is also looking at the potential development of Northern Badung as part of the diversification of tourism destinations.
Regent Adi Arnawa outlined the importance of infrastructure development in Northern Badung to improve connectivity and support tourism destinations with potential for future growth.
According to the Regent, destination development needs to be supported by adequate accessibility and infrastructure.
"Sometimes we develop the destination first and deal with access afterwards. This can create difficulties. Therefore, we are trying to develop the infrastructure first and establish connectivity. Whether a destination has potential or not is a secondary consideration."
This approach highlights the importance of connectivity as a foundation for destination development, particularly as Bali continues to diversify its tourism products and geographical areas.
Unlocking the Potential of New Destinations in Badung
Regent Adi Arnawa also highlighted the potential for developing new areas as emerging tourism destinations.
The Badung Regency Government stated that it would provide support in accordance with the characteristics of each area. The development of new destinations is expected to help broaden the distribution of tourism activities, reducing their concentration in Southern Badung.
The forum was also attended by Deputy Regent of Badung Bagus Alit Sucipta, Chairman of the Badung Regional House of Representatives I Made Sada, Badung Regional Secretary I.B. Surya Suamba, as well as heads of regional government organisations within the Badung Regency Government, relevant officials from the Bali Provincial Government, representatives of vertical government agencies, and members of the Badung Regency Policy Formulation Team.
